Recent testimonial:

"... I write this open recommendation with nothing but positive endorsement for Doug, his performance, and his passion and tenacity.
...  His position was ... in a dual capacity.  First, as a patent attorney to protect the company’s trademarked names, design patents and utility patents on products.  Second, to act as corporate counsel and oversee all legal affairs, including contracts with vendors, customers and service providers as well as building leasing contracts, human resource issues and collection efforts.
Doug developed an in-house legal department from scratch.  He set up the necessary docketing and case management tools and hired and trained legal staff to handle all of the company’s intellectual property asset acquisition in-house.  He and his staff filed, handled, and obtained hundreds of US and foreign trademarks, patents, and copyrights.  Hundreds of general business legal matters were handled, including supplier agreements, handling miscellaneous disputes and compliance issues, and managing outside counsel on various litigations.
Doug did a great job ..., and I wholeheartedly recommend him ..."        --- CFO, Sunlight Supply, Inc.

Sunlight Supply, Inc. acquired by The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company for $450 million

June 2018

Doug advised Buckley Law, representing the seller, in connection with the sale of the assets of Sunlight Supply, Inc. and various of its affiliates for $450 million to Hawthorne Hydroponics LLC (“Hawthorne Gardening”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company (“SMG”).  Doug provided legal counsel for general business and intellectual property matters, particularly as to ownership, value, and strength of IP assets, throughout due diligence and closing.  Jones Day represented the purchaser.  The transaction is expected to greatly enhance the ability of Hawthorne Gardening to meet the needs of the rapidly evolving hydroponics marketplace.
